A new Hindi film, ‘Mausam’, is currently under production. It is written and directed by Pankaj Kapur and the cast consists of Pankaj Kapur himself, his son Shahid Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and Anupam Kher. Much of the shooting has been done in UK and Europe besides India. The film is expected to be premiered on 16 September 2011 but the music album has already been released.

The album describes ‘Mausam’ as a love story beyond romance, comprising four seasons, four colours, four true historical events, and so on. Its first season starts with mere adolescent attraction between a Punjabi boy Harry and a Kashmiri girl Aayat in a small village of Punjab. It develops into young love between them in season two. Their love realizes its own depth in the hours of separation throughout season three. In the fourth and final season their love culminates into togetherness.

The music album has six songs and another seven of their remix versions:

‘Rabba main toh mar gaya oye’, ‘Sajh dhaj ke’, ‘Ik tu hi tu hi’, ‘Poore se zara sa kam hain’, ‘Aag lage us aag ko’ and ‘Mallo malli’. The music has been composed by Pritam Chakraborty and the lyrics have been written by Irshad Kamil.

The song ‘Rabba main toh’ is sung by Shahid Mallya and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in two different versions. This is what it has to say about ‘mausam’:

Mausam ke azaad parinday,
Haathon mein hai uske,
Ya woh bahaaron si hai,
Sardi ki woh dhoop ke jaisi,
Garmi ki shaam hai,
Pehli puhaaron si hai,
Mera pyaar ka mausam bhi hai,
Lagey meri mehram bhi hai,
Jaane kya kya do aankhon mein main padh gaya oye,
O rabba main toh mar gaya oye,
Shaddain mujhe kar gaya kar gaya oye….
